Local Highlights
Walking along Bistupur Main Road is the best introduction to Jamshedpur. The market mixes old shops, modern showrooms, sweet shops and restaurants, and the evening crowd is relaxed and family oriented. The Tata Workers Union library, a few steps away, reflects the long history of organised labour in the steel city.
Jubilee Park, around three kilometres away, was gifted to the city by Tata Steel and modelled partly on the Mughal gardens of Srinagar. It has fountains, rose gardens and a lake, and it is the favourite place for morning walks. Around the third of March, Founder's Day, the park is illuminated spectacularly in honour of Jamsetji Tata, drawing crowds from all over Jharkhand.
The Tata Steel Zoological Park, near Jubilee Park, keeps animals in relatively open enclosures and includes a small safari section. Next to it, the Jayanti Sarovar lake and the surrounding greenery make a pleasant afternoon for families.
About eighteen kilometres from the city, the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary covers hills known for wild elephants, though sightings are never guaranteed. Dimna Lake, a reservoir under the Dalma hills around thirteen kilometres away, offers views at sunset and is popular for picnics.
For food, the area around the hotel is excellent. Moti Mahal, practically next door, serves North Indian dishes, and Bistupur has many restaurants for Bengali fish curries, Bihari litti chokha and South Indian tiffin. Street stalls sell chaat and jhal muri in the evening.
