Use the twenty four hour check out policy to your advantage. If arriving on an early morning train, confirm with reception that your stay will count from arrival time, so you can rest without losing a day. Confirm the policy at booking, as it may depend on availability.

Request a club room if possible. The renovated rooms are spacious, quiet and modern, while older rooms can have noisy air conditioners and dated furniture. The price difference is modest compared with the gain in comfort.

About food: order a local Jharkhand dish such as litti chokha or dhuska from a street stall in the evening, and try the in house restaurants for North Indian dinner. Guests praise the hotel kitchen, and meals can be kept aside for late arrivals if requested in advance.

Visit Jubilee Park early in the morning when locals exercise and the gardens are fresh. If your visit falls around the third of March, stay for the Founder's Day illumination, one of the most spectacular events in eastern India.

Drink only bottled water. Some guests have noticed coloured water from taps, and the hotel supplies bottled water in the rooms. Ask for extra bottles if needed.

For business meetings, the Fiesta banquet and conference halls can be booked on site with catering, useful for companies visiting Tata Steel and its many suppliers. Reserve early during the wedding season, when the halls are in high demand.
